The "red menace" once was a political slogan of some popularity, hopefully being laid to rest today. We have the Border Guard to help protect us. As the border itself runs in the middle of a wide river here, the military crews use a lot of well-equipped speedboats to patrol the river. Transgressing the border is a felony with stiff fines (several thousand $) and you get listed with an additional criminal record to complete the misery

However the vigilance of the Border Guards against any "red menace" cannot prevent immigrants from East. On this IR photo, Russia is the red landscape on the far bank of the river, in front are the military vessels, and -- wait -- in the foreground, the long floating leaves of an aquatic plant originating from Russia
