Very sad :'(
Just heard that the tower was safe for now, but what a great loss.

The two towers are saved (TV) as well as the outer structure, but I believe the inner ogival arches are gone (they are just below the wooden structure of the roof and on this side are made of brick sized stones). The stained glass are gone too ! Some of them will be very difficult to reproduce as the secret of some colors are lost. The bells have almost melted.
We'll know more tomorrow... But the pictures of the interior will be bleak !

a very cool shot!!!

Thx Frank ! Just back from my one week trip to the South of France, spending all the time on the race circuit of Le Castellet (Paul Ricard) in the hills in the neighbourhood of Marseille. It was the first time I used / tested the D850 as an "action" camera, with quite good results, though not completely at he level of a D5, in terms of "hits". Nevertheless, my preferred picture was made by the D850.

During the week, I made 4'669 pictures, i.e. 1'738 with the D850 and 2'931 with a D5. This to have a good dozen of keepers.  On the more informal side, I climbed the equivalent of 88 floors, walked 42 kilometres or 72'400 steps, and found a marvellous Brazilian restaurant on the border of the Mediterranean sea, more exactly at Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer.

Jacques, as many things as the French do in the world for the good , it seems more press coverage of other happenings.  This is so sad.  My son spent most of the Summer in Rome two years ago and I was hoping he would do the same in Paris in the next couple of years.  I had given him a list of some of my old haunts in Paris, not that Notre-Dame was a haunt but I used to sit at Shakespeare and Co. very often .   Looks as if we are still awaiting more info on the Pipe Organ (Frank) and other items.
All the best and our thoughts are with you and all Frenchmen (and women),
Tom

Impressive numbers.  Have you tried the D850 in the Raw-medium  mode?

Thanks John.  :). No, I haven't. I'm a little bit of the principle "who can do the most, can the least". Have you ? And what is the advantage ?  8)

I was at Charles de Gaulle airport (Paris), changing planes, when it started, but nobody was yet aware. It was the first message I received when l landed in Geneva, and turning my mobile on. I have to admit that the tears came into my eyes. I will  subscribe for a donation, as soon as the occasion arises.
