yea, the concept grows with abstraction. When I took the shot I only thought of connecting the poles and using stark colors to mimik the Bjørn / Birna style.

Time has come to explore the hidden beauties of the little Tussilago farfara flowers gracing road verges near my house. In visible light they appear yellow all over, but not so in UV.
A test shot with the broad-spectrum modified Nikon D600 and one of my UV-Nikkor 105mm f/4.5 lenses, using the Baader U ('Venus') filter. Taken at f/11, 100 ISO, 2 sec during a nagging spring wind that impact final sharpness, but by trying to hit the lulls in the wind passable results can be obtained.
The familiar Colorchecker Passport indicates another dimension of the colour rendition - all colours are truly false. However, as they are reproducible, I for one don't mind.

In spring when the fields turn yellow from glyphosate.
Are they using it already?
It seems most people just think glyphosate is just used as a weed killer and don’t realise farmers also spray it on oilseed rape and wheat in summer/autumn to make their harvesting more convenient :(
Whatever the proven toxicity of glyphosphate, if you don’t buy organic bread/pasta etc, you’re probably consuming it.

Many fields are sprayed with a herbicide, like round-up, plowed, raked and so prepared for a new crop, eg corn.

Around our ugly 1970ies heap of concrete CityHall in the very center of Bonn is a great public space that is no more than a public heap of dirt currently.
It could be so much more: A nice and friendly public park where children play and old people walk and inbetween people take a rest from their strenuous working days in shops and offices nearby.
Perpendicularly small lots could be sold to families wanting to build and live there, a great variety of individually developed living space.
Better for the public and better for the inhabitants than the current waste of space here.

Very sad day and view...!
With this smoke seen from my window, centuries of history goes up in flame! The Cathedral of Paris is ablaze, and I believe the worst is yet to come, as the stone work will be hit by the high temperature (it wasn't a great quality of stone to begin with).
I could have walked to take some dramatic pictures, but I believe it was better not to add to the crowd viewing the blaze and maybe hindering firemen and police work.
This smoke slowly drifting in the sky of Paris, is for me, more appropriate, as a reminder of how civilizations can be mortal too, and that nothing is really eternal. With this smoke goes Victor Hugo and all the ghosts of Paris that was...

Very sad :'(
Just heard that the tower was safe for now, but what a great loss.
The two towers are saved (TV) as well as the outer structure, but I believe the inner ogival arches are gone (they are just below the wooden structure of the roof and on this side are made of brick sized stones). The stained glass are gone too ! Some of them will be very difficult to reproduce as the secret of some colors are lost. The bells have almost melted.
We'll know more tomorrow... But the pictures of the interior will be bleak !

It was the first time I used / tested the D850 as an "action" camera, with quite good results, though not completely at he level of a D5, in terms of "hits". Nevertheless, my preferred picture was made by the D850.
During the week, I made 4'669 pictures, i.e. 1'738 with the D850 and 2'931 with a D5. This to have a good dozen of keepers. On the more informal side, I climbed the equivalent of 88 floors, walked 42 kilometres or 72'400 steps, and found a marvellous Brazilian restaurant on the border of the Mediterranean sea, more exactly at Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer.

Jacques, as many things as the French do in the world for the good , it seems more press coverage of other happenings. This is so sad. My son spent most of the Summer in Rome two years ago and I was hoping he would do the same in Paris in the next couple of years. I had given him a list of some of my old haunts in Paris, not that Notre-Dame was a haunt but I used to sit at Shakespeare and Co. very often . Looks as if we are still awaiting more info on the Pipe Organ (Frank) and other items.
All the best and our thoughts are with you and all Frenchmen (and women),

Beautiful image. I love the sense of speed!
You know my motto "the quest for the perfect speed blur" ;)
Impressive numbers. Have you tried the D850 in the Raw-medium mode?
Thanks John. :). No, I haven't. I'm a little bit of the principle "who can do the most, can the least". Have you ? And what is the advantage ? 8)
Devastated, the end of an era.
I was at Charles de Gaulle airport (Paris), changing planes, when it started, but nobody was yet aware. It was the first message I received when l landed in Geneva, and turning my mobile on. I have to admit that the tears came into my eyes. I will subscribe for a donation, as soon as the occasion arises.
-
Thanks John. :). No, I haven't. I'm a little bit of the principle "who can do the most, can the least". Have you ? And what is the advantage ?
I have the same principle, but I also like to experiment. I noticed very good results when using the medium size mode. Firstly you get a fully flexible RAW (must be downsampled somehow with good results). Secondly, the speed, faster with shooting, and finally, a lot faster in post-processing. So when I don't need the full size, it's a very convenient feature to use.
-
Thx John. But what do you mean by “faster shooting” ?

Faster processing I mean.

Well Jacques, I guess the up-side to such a calamity is that it could have been even much worse. Kudos to the Fire Service and Staff and the way people are rallying around :) . Look for a thinner guy ( semi-military cut hair, I did have hair) sporting a Dali mustache with a Nikkormat or FM. Interesting but I had forgotten all about "Point Zero" .

Paco, agree with Akira and Frank, It really grabs attention. Until I got the 58 1.4 G the 60 2.8G was my 'Standard' lens for travel on the D700. Size, weight and dual use. Nice to see it on a Z.

Thank you Akira.
Angenieux's last photography zoomlens the AF 28-70/2.6 appears to be the best, less flare and chroma than the previous 35-70mm. It's a bit softer in the edges but that is a bonus for the rendering.

I know the feeling ! I have a mixed bunch of AF and MF lenses. When I'm lazy I use the AF ones, but when getting back to MF, there is a short but albeit real time to re-adapt !!! It's not so much about "slowing down", it's more about the constraints that I believe gets me more interesting pictures :o

Instead of the disappointing Z6 (LifePixel) I put the full-spectrum D600 into use today. The lens was the 105/1.4E, which does work for emulated false-colour IR, however has a tendency for developing a diffuse hotspot. That issue didn't crop up here, though.

My educated guess is that these companies use the customers as alpha testers for the modified Z cameras they sell. No further conclusions can be drawn from a sample size of n=1. However I know of at least one additional Z6 that is in the works to be converted and thus in a short time n=2. If the UV/IR banding issue really is inherent to these cameras, the problem will exhibit itself with that camera unit too.

Ah, It is in Vlissingen, from center, looking eastwards.

Interesting image and processing Nasos.
I bought the 300 vrII because it was a very good deal with the idea to be able to sell it for almost what I paid in case I needed something else. I´ve wanted a fast lens like this for a long time now I know many people here already know its virtues but I´m new and very impressed. Far, close, tripod or handheld at any aperture, oh my. I can´t wait to put it to service for anything on stage.
Same construction site in front of my window, today started rainy and then very sunny :)
-
Tom, you captured beautiful light and atmosphere. Your assumption should be correct.
Thanks Akira for your kind words. When I saw the woods with my eyes, the leaves sparkled like fireflies. As I write you, I now see that my photo misses some of that, but that's what I was going for. Post production is so hard for me!
-
Thank you Paco it’s LR preset on IPad very quick and convenient
As for your construction picture I find the machines look like a toy not real for some reason, only the wooden palette guides me to reality

Birches are breaking buds and exhibiting copious amounts of pollen-loaded catkins. Not a good time to be outdoors for a hyperallergic Birna. Just sneaking out for a quick shot, then driving rapidly home to the inhaler device.
300mm f/4.5 Nikkor ED (non-IF), D600 full-spectrum. The spring colours are pastel-like.

very nice

Instead of the disappointing Z6 (LifePixel) I put the full-spectrum D600 into use today. The lens was the 105/1.4E, which does work for emulated false-colour IR, however has a tendency for developing a diffuse hotspot. That issue didn't crop up here, though.

Scandinavia as a region has few endemic species, thanks to its history of being recently glaciated. One of these endemics is Arabidopsis suecica Swedish Rock-Cress, particular to Sweden as its specific epithet suggests. It is slowly extending its range out from its initial core areas in Sweden and has crossed the border to Norway. Being little competitive, it typically thrives on open sandy soils along railway embankments and road verges. As I'm now live quite close to the Swedish border, A. suecica is one of the earlier spring flowers around here. Still a rarity in the district, but I know about its hiding places :D

Frank, your portrait of the young girl is sublime. One of hundreds you say? Sounds like an embarrassment of riches to me.
As for the Mayflower, they arrived in the new world in November of 1620 so by then, everything had gone to seed. Seems they didn't know what awaited them - our New England winter - not a pleasant prospect.

Ah.. I just faved it on Flickr ! Didn't know you were here too... ;)
What are those plans for/of ? Nice objects (dice, knife, etc.) !!!
Those plans are a rough sketch for a quite ambitious scale modelling project I have in mind. Well, it rather jumped my mind like a flea jumps a cat. And it got stuck and keeps reproducing itself, spamming my brain with a multitude of scale modelling ideas, of which only a fraction will end up in those plans (some 10 pages of them once the planning stage is done). The other 90% worth of ideas will be added during the mock-up and building processes, and will have to remain in my head until then.
Once I finished moving to our new home, and the dust settled a bit, and I have all the welding and house building thingies done, I intend to build a 1:12 scale section of an oil refinery. Not only the exterior, but also the interior of the refinery towers, with opened manholes, and the basement levels, where most of the operating valves are moved. The intention of this is to end up with a 3 dimensional, fully usable 48"x48"x48" piece of gaming terrain for a boardgame I'm writing some rules for. Gantryways and stairs should allow plenty of movement on 7 fully detailed levels to move the gaming pieces on, allowing for the amount of confusion that will keep the game challenging and the players on their toes during the game.
The game will use gaming pieces partially sculpted myself and partially made of bits and pieces salvaged here and there. So much work to realize just an oddball idea that crept up on me, but such is life. An idea is worth something once it can be shared, and to share an idea, you need to do something with it.
The dice are handmade, using various precious woods, buffalo horn and bone. Made using techniques used by craftsmen 1000 years ago. The knife is also handmade, and was a prototype. I am now working on a commission for a $2500 knife. The sketch for that one is somewhere underneath the plans in that picture. The mammoth tusk sections shown in the picture are for that project, along with some Elm burl (one of few trees sharing the earth with the Mammoths) and bolster and pommel for which I still have to do some sculpting, to create a positive that can be made into a ceramic negative used to cast bronze. I have most of the means to do the bronze casting myself.

Frank, you are too modest concerning your own talents, and too generous when it comes to mine. To put things into perspective, a professional is defined as a person making a living using his talents.
That requires owning a set of talents that let's you recognize a talent that can be marketed, possessing the talent that can be marketed, and possessing a talent for marketing.
In my 40 years of existence, I have not managed to market any of my talents in a fashion that allows me to make a living. If I remember correctly, you do. ;)
