That was an unusually flattering IR rendition of humans, Paco ....

But this is not about the pictured lens, but about the rendering wide open of the Nikkor 50mm AF-S  f/1.4 G

The rendering of the 1.4/50G I never liked so much. The 1.8/50D was cool. very technical, you could see every blade of the aperture and smooth if the setting was right. In your example I see a very nervous bokeh and a very nicely rendered sharp part plus a confusing transition, first smooth, then sudden. The 1.4/50D is much more consitent but it is also very soft wide open.

Thanks for you explanation, Frank.  Well it is all a matter of taste.  I find the 50/1.8 G and also the 85/1.8 G too clinical. Perhaps 'technical' better but also standard and boring.

yes. A matter of taste. The 1.8/85G is my favourite esp at f/1.8

the textile of the curtain you picture here like a threatening sign of hopelessness in a horror movie ... Shining?

Very nice Fons.  Congrats too

So the 28/2.8 works great on the D850  :)

Happy to find vintage glass works perfectly on the d850 sensor, sets a factor of discrimination with the modern lenses more acutely.
