Good question, probably may become invasive, and next hard to remove but will attract many of beetles.

Get rid of as many as you can. They are invasive and almost impossible to remove when they are 3 or 4 years old as they restart from every tiny bit of root. They also produce thousands of long lasting seeds so you already have enough seeds for the next 15 years, if you want some.

In my garden, I keep only a few plants (mashed leaves are great to calm burn from nettle) but I cut the seeds before they mature. I'm 15 years there and I still see dozens of seedlings every spring.

No one eat their seeds in winter so its usefulness for wildlife is much more limited than Daucus carota or Angelica sylvestris.

If you're confident that the soil is not too polluted, young Aegopodium leaves prepared like spinach are delicious. They were a common vegetable a few hundreds years ago but were kicked out of gardens because really too invasive.

Today I finally got to look at the images taken on Dali´s museum, August 27. Here because I had a problem -my fault, I deleted them- and have to recover  the images from an already formatted card. Almost all were recovered, big happy surprise. 3 or 4 were damaged. Thanks!  ;D

Dx. So far I´m very pleased with it in the d500. I got it for 120€, barely used with box and still under warranty... Hard to pass deal. It looks like it is more than capable even wide open, af is spot on with the d500 and it is a very light combo. I walked around with it today for the first time.

Yes, it is a very capable lens.  When I came back to Nikon from Panasonic GH5, I had to make a tough choice between this very combo and my current D750 and 50/1.8G combo.

Frank, how do you leave the chrominance noise intact while removing the luminance noise in such a beautiful way?  When I open my D750 image shot at ISO12800 in ACR, the chrominance noise is already gone.  There is just the luminance noise...

Switch off Noise Reduction in Camera and in NX-D then work from there.

In this case I simply used the "Auto Color" filter of "DevMacgyver Photo Editor for Android" ... a rare case making it so easy.

Plus: The chrominace noise level of the D850 ist MUCH higher than the chrominance noise level of the D750.

Both pictures are ISO 16.000 IIRC

Thank you for the technical details.  I always deactivate the in-camera high-ISO noise reduction.  The SOOC jpeg files shows lots of chrominance noise, but the RAW files don't.   ::)

I found the latest NX-D (with the U-point control) struggles with the highlight recovery of contrasty images and thus uninstalled it.

"thinking without barriers" is a goal not a fact I guess. I have heared too many experts resting on their merits, presenting knowledge that can be acquired in a week of research.

Free thinkers with strong insights and regular knowledge updates tend not to grow in the German system. Regulation and social control is strong, people thinking outside the box are considered "Störenfriede" and they try to get rid of them.

Aha, some model drawings amid all those pictures  8)

I was hoping that today I could already shoot the actual construction but not. At mid march I signed the contract for the neighbouring lot which enables me to build 600sqm of living space instead of 300 sqm but the procedure of paperwork to make the lot mine and unite it with my existing property is not yet finished. Good thing is that inbetween me and my architect have finalized the planning and can thus file for the building permit as soon as the Katasteramt and Grundbuchamt have got their act together

Getting a property deed is needed here too for applying a permit. Some designs can wait up to ten years because we started it before being sure the land property is in full order. Even for much bigger operations, some times there's a small lot who's owner died years ago, and state must be sure there is no heirs before the municipality can claim the lot... 8)

We would also need to show some sunscreen system for that glasshouse (and not internal curtains), as our new regulations are trending toward sustainability (tough our thermal regulations are a bit weird anyhow) :o

Technically the lot is mine and I am already responsible for everything that happens there. Only the entry that enables me to unite the two lots is not yet in the books...

Thanks.

Yes, 105mm f1.4 @1.4, 1/40, iso 800 with nikon d750. I was looking at how much I cropped the image but it is  a 8 by 10 with a slight crop. Distance to the subject about 2 meters. Other than that, the main light is coming from the computer screen and whatever he was seeing at the moment bump the light and It was over exposed some 3/4 steps.

I guess is that lens rendition?
Title: Re: October 2018
Post by: John Geerts on October 22, 2018, 10:20:12
Thanks Paco. The crop is not very small.  Now in a full image a larger part is visible which is sharp. That explains it for me :)  Looks like a normal f/1.4  lens-rendition to me, but I do not have the 105/1.4 unfortunately.
Title: Re: October 2018
Post by: golunvolo on October 22, 2018, 11:30:48
No problem. With the crop I meant: first to make it 8 by 10 and a small crop on top of that. I get your point.

That lens is very rewarding   ;)

And I agree, was out many days with the camera, but I don't get the pictures processed the same day, and if I have to stick to the rules, they have to be taken on the day.
But it is the time of the year where we have a full colour palette from green to yellow, very beautiful.
Pacos nice BW portrait is a digression from the autumn colours.
Was out this morning in the local forest, no camera, was running :P

Title: Re: October 2018
Post by: Frank Fremerey on October 22, 2018, 13:52:32
I have to stick to the rules, they have to be taken on the day.

There is no such rule anymore.

There has been in the first year a rule "post by noon next day" (time zone rule).

It was called "a picture a day".

Curretly the rules are:

no more that 4/month per members
no more than 30/month per supporters
no more than 1/24h for everyone
October pics in October (replace October for "current month")
Title: Re: October 2018
Post by: Birna Rørslett on October 22, 2018, 14:06:35
An accurate summing up, Frank. And of course the "rules" are just guide lines to avoid say flooding the forum with a lot of images taken at the same time. There is no count-down mechanism to tell 24 hrs have elapsed since the last photo was posted .... There is no harm done if one waits just a little longer posting one's contribution.
Title: Re: October 2018

I agree. It is more a general guideline. If you post two within 23 hours and then 3 days not, noone will have trouble with that, also if you post one at 23:30 and another one at 00:30 seems OK as long as you do not do it every day and stick to the 30/moth rule...
Title: Re: October 2018
Post by: Birna Rørslett on October 22, 2018, 14:12:10
Yes, that is correct. Time can contract or expand in one's perception -- we all know the feeling.

We hardly ever observe a participant in these threads who is actively bending these guide lines anyway, so this is by and large a moot issue.

I guess the 2.8/60D does not need an UV filter for front lens protection. It is good for dusty environments though because it unfolds like a flower
Title: Re: October 2018
Post by: John Geerts on October 25, 2018, 19:47:42
Yes, it is strange to use a UV filter, also because the frontlens is deeply recessed in the barrel.   I guess it was purchased in the 'film' age.

But this is not about the pictured lens, but about the rendering wide open of the Nikkor 50mm AF-S  f/1.4 G

But this is not about the pictured lens, but about the rendering wide open of the Nikkor 50mm AF-S  f/1.4 G

The rendering of the 1.4/50G I never liked so much. The 1.8/50D was cool. very technical, you could see every blade of the aperture and smooth if the setting was right. In your example I see a very nervous bokeh and a very nicely rendered sharp part plus a confusing transition, first smooth, then sudden. The 1.4/50D is much more consitent but it is also very soft wide open.

Thanks for you explanation, Frank.  Well it is all a matter of taste.  I find the 50/1.8 G and also the 85/1.8 G too clinical. Perhaps 'technical' better but also standard and boring.

Don't usually post in this section but here goes!

Went to the World Water Speed Records Week event today on Coniston Water in the English Lakes.  An annual event, what a lovely day! Only marred by a glider crash landing nearby in a field next to the water.  I didn't take many pictures today, this is part of a panorama with the D3 in portrait orientation with the 18-35 f/3.5-4.5.  Stitched in Lightroom.

After a long period of stagnation they finally started to rebuild the bridge again. Crazy story city council run construction sites. Extremly inefficient. Very expensive. Maximum patience from the citizens required. Gosh!

Oktober 31

Late flowering Aster type i am unsure of its nomenclature A. 'Autumn abundance' or something tall and slow growing variety at least in my setting.

Straight .jpg, cropped and tweaked a bit in PS still loses acute sharpness on the upload to Flickr.

Fons: I like the mood very much, yet I'd like to see a tad more of earlewineinan definition in the picture...

John, I like the picture but I still think it is too early for Christmas! :-) :)

Fons, nice peaceful and calm mood in the Asters.
