Came across this creature in an inland lake north of Oslo. It is a Noble or European Crayfish Astacus astacus. highly sought as a culinary treat and an integrated part of Scandinavian celebrations of the end of summer. It has just ten days to live as an intensive fishery for crayfish starts shortly. The fisheries are strictly regulated and it is illegal to start fishing before the catch period is up.
My interest wasn't the crayfish which could be considered 'collateral damage' in my pursuit of aquatic plants ... Taken with the Olympus M1.2 and the 7-14mm f/2.8 lens which basically is very sharp, but has an awful curvature of field at the wide setting. It might be the worst performer in this respect I have ever encountered. So much in fact I discovered it was useless at 7 mm since I'm working in the close range. The image of the crayfish is heavily cropped to let some impression of sharpness and detail remain.
Next time I'm using the lens at the longer end of its focal range. In a longer-term perspective, my hopes are for the upcoming Nikon M L system. The Olympus was selected on non-photographic criteria.
