I would keep the D800E and get a D600. (nearly same sensor as D750 without tiltable screen but a lot cheaper) You will save money to invest in some glass
I agree, it's very frustrating. Also the fact the D600 does not save the raw uncompressed. On the other hand, as a back up-camera, these disadvantages are easily to overcome.
if you do not mind the change in the controls I think the D750 is a great option, it focus down to -3EV, smaller files, and better high ISO, and about 200 g. lighterthis is a question i often make myself, when my D800 dies, what's next ?
D750 doesn't save the uncompressed RAW either. Do you find any noticeable difference between the uncompressed and the losslessly compressed?
To my feeling yes. But that is hard to proof scientifically. The uncompressed RAWs of the Df and 800E give a lot of extra room to work with, especially with darker zones and noise. To my feeling. It's also difficult to compare because of the different sensors. The flexibility of large uncompressed RAWS are also noticable with the Fuji S5 Pro (at least when you shoot at ISO100 to get the full dynamic range). The raws of the 12? MP Fuji S5 (25MB) are sometimes larger than the 'compressed' 24MP D600 files.
I think I read somewhere that the lossless compression will lose 1 bit depth. I have no experience of working with the uncompressed RAW, so I have no clue...
Ich am a very acoustic person and do not like the snappy sound of the D750. The D600/800/810/850 produce a much better sound in my ears. I would keep the 800 and get a 500 as a good addition. High ISO is great. AF is great. AF coverage is phantastic. Battery life is superb and ergonomics plus speed speed speed.A high res 800 slow shooting FX machine combined with a fast DX is great. Yes the D850 is fast and high resolution but she costs a lot and is not worlds apart from the D500.
