Waterfall Swallet - new images added
« on: December 16, 2017, 18:19:34 »
Near a village with the unlikely name of Foolow.
I read this small waterfall is a "hidden gem, a secret unknown to most".
So I went this morning, a dreary day with intermittent snow, and during my stay there another 5 photographers visited said "secret" place.
By the way, it is an interesting feature, it is actually a sinkhole - not surprising as the White Peak is made of limestone.

A touch of Icelandic waterfall mood -- the fourth image with mosses on a branch could be a good starting point for further work.

Thanks Bjørn.
Maybe the mood is reminiscent of Icelandic waterfalls, the size certainly is not!
Now that I know the place I will go in the future to see it in different seasons and conditions.
This time I was hoping for ice, sadly there was none.

Size-wise no match for an Icelandic  (or Nordic) waterfall -. but one only notices this if sufficient parts of the surroundings are included....

Obviously a scenery well worth repeated visits.

Good images - you made the most of a slightly limited subject. In other states - hard frost, floods - it could be very interesting.

When the new "mini Beast from the East" visited us last weekend I knew it was a unique opportunity to revisit Waterfall Swallet.

The drive was quite challenging, lost of snow drifting in the high winds on unprotected roads, cars sliding all over the place.
All the roads in the Peak District were officially unsafe and despite having snow tyres I had to change route a few times.
I got there in just over double the usual time, but the advantage was that I had a totally unspoilt scene all to myself for the whole duration, a very rare luxury indeed.
I wish it were even colder, but this is the best I could reasonably hope for, and I have tried my best to take some interesting images from this fairy place.

Thanks for posting Simone, amazing what's hidden in the nooks and crannies.

Have found it on Google Earth, next time I am that way I shall visit.  Can't imagine there will be any snow.  Makes the little icicle pic I posted yesterday look puny!

Thank you Robert, I feel quite privileged to have seen this place under these rare conditions. Well worth the effort!
Will visit again, I want to see it in spring time and in the autumn when the foliage is yellow.

You captured it well, I particularly like... Them ALL!  LOL I was going to ty to pick one, initially I picked the full waterfall, #4 but the others said, "but what about me?", I couldn't deny they are all lovely.

It seems to me an ideal candidate for a 180-360º panorama.  That would be tricky in snow!   ;)
