I have the original version, bought new in late 2008. Tokina has since released a second 11-16 mm version and an extended range 11-20 mm f/2.8. I used mine first with a D200, then a D7000. I think you'd be able to get a used copy of the first version very cheaply now. It is an outstanding lens, with a nice point of view. Mine is very sharp, even wide open, though best a little zoomed in from the 11 mm limit. Two limitations to be aware of: (i) The sun striking the front element at a glancing angle produces an ugly, elongate green ghost. Watch out for this. (ii) Noticeable lateral chromatic aberration in the corners, but easily corrected in post-processing.
Mine doesn't get too much use nowadays, but for many years it was an excellent workhorse lens. Two photos from the D7000 attached.
