« on: November 06, 2017, 18:36:49 »
The bridge one can use to get to Edisto Island, South Carolina

EDIT: I just noticed that there is a Bridge theme and this post should have been in that thread. My bad.

Tom, you captured the streamlined shape of the bridge really nicely.

Thanks Akira. This bridge is striking both for its design and for its setting as it crosses the Inland Waterway from the the mainland to the island of Edisto. It is somewhat surprising to me that such a grand structure was built to allow access to an island that has only about 2000 inhabitants. However, as someone who loves bridges, it would be out of character for me to complain about this.

BBeautiful bridge. The fact that you caught it deserted adds a certain something!

Tom, thanks for the details of the bridge.  Judging from its environment and the absence of the lighting, it should be pitch black in the night, and driving through the bridge could be a bit scary...

Thanks Peter, I had to wait on the narrow apron of the road for the bridge to be clear of traffic. That plus my inability to choose the right lens and find the right spot made my friend who was driving the car a bit nervous as I fiddled around while Rome burned (as it were). Furthermore, when I first saw the bridge it was partially illuminated by the sun which was leaking through the clouds. I then made my friend turn around and go back to get what I had seen. By then the sunlight was gone so that was one more reason to wait. I'm glad the State Police didn't stop and give me a ticket!

Akira, When we first arrived on the island, it was at night but we had a waxing moon that illuminated the scene in a very pleasing way. No pictures then because it being late, all we wanted to do was get to our destination.

Thanks Thomas and Armando.

Armando, yes there are traces of sunlight. I had waited with camera in hand for it to come out from the clouds once more. 8)

Thanks Olivier. The bridge seemed almost new with the lane lines freshly painted.
