moving to the Faroe islands

I saw a documentary of the Faroe Islands and I fell in love with the scenery and how generally polite the people are 

I would love to move to the Faroe Islands, it is probably the last paradise here on earth. Anyway, just saying what I feel

As somebody who shot landscape photography, this looks like a place that I will fall in love with

Moving there, or just dreaming about visiting Richard?

A family friend had a close friend who grew up on the Faroes and she visited the islands several times. I think like all remote spots out in the middle of a sea that can get quite wild at times, you might experience quite a lot there. I agree, the beauty of these places can't be denied though.

Maybe try it for 6 months first - start in January and stay till at least the summer! That should give you enough exposure (personally I'd love to experience real storms and massive seas, knowing I had somewhere warm I could retreat back to after a while).

The only other comments my friend made were

• You might miss fast internet after a while....
  
• As a lover of beautiful wild animals, it came as a shock to realise her hosts had served her puffin in many of the meals she'd eaten with them!!

So maybe time to get off grid and back to your true Paleo nature

thinking of moving...but i just don't know how i will fit in. japan has lovely seascapes but none as amazing as what i saw

they have a similar thing in spain and japan where dolphins are herded and killed  not an advocate but if that's their thing...

I recently finished a tour through Iceland, the Faroes, Orkney and ending in Norway.  They're all nice, and I loved them all.  The short winter days are a bit of a deterrent though.  It's bad enough in Vermont, but my wife, who was born in the tropics, has suggested in rather persuasive words that the short day limit has been at least reached if not exceeded.  Maybe summer in the Faroes, winter in the Caribbean?

At 60 degrees latitude I’d want to hibernate all winter. It would also seem that the island lifestyle would be a incredibly different thing than living in Tokyo.

I think that even with my Scandinavian ancestry and quiet stoic nature, I’d not quite fit in with those who have spent generations on a rocky isolated island.

Certainly a long visit would be a good first step.

lovely! not sure if there's any employment for somebody like me over there. if there is a TV station there then I can probably work there 

one of the things that I liked from the documentary that I saw is how old-fashioned the life is over there.

I look at beautiful photographs of the North countries and wonder how humans survive the winters. Even So. California winters are too cold for me. If I had money I'd fly south for the winter.

No Frank - i just googled this (should have added a credit - sorry). I've seen very few puffins and never photographed them.
Like the example of Dolphins above, I've been served Mike Whale in Iceland. Some of these cultures have done stuff like this for many hundreds of years, originally in small numbers.
