UV-A and UV-B won't kill mold. As noted above, it takes UV-C (not in the sunlight which reaches earth) to kill mold. Only UV-C can induce the molecular interaction in the DNA's thymine which breaks the nucleotides and kills the organism.

sorry, dumb question :o :o :o

what are the chances that this gadget is UV-C? ::)

I had two older unused cameras with a very pronounced moldy smell. Having exposed them for a couple of months to normal daylight, made the smell to completely disappear. Knowing that I'm living in a mountain area with very low humidity (RH 35%).

I don't really know. Google for UV-C LEDs and see what comes up. I'm sure there must be UV-C chips. You would have to have someone test the output for you to determine if it is actually UV-C.

So, if normal sunlight killed mold and fungus, then we would not have mushrooms. 8)
OK, I know, I know. That is a huge oversimplification.

Drying an item out in the sunlight is good because it might stop the growth. Mold thrives in humidity. Not sure about fungus.** And the fresh air can improve a bad smell. But sunshine and fresh air does not kill the spores. They are amazingly hardy.

But do look this stuff up for yourself in Microbiology 101 references.  ;)

** IIRC, all molds are fungi but not all fungi are molds.

There are, from several manufacturers, for different applications. I remember (and might be wrong) mass production since 2014.
