Hm, I see curiosity at work, but maybe, curiosity is a flavour of arrogance?

And I see some camera shake at work too, if only a little bit.

Anyway. I love the expression of our little black friend, Very lively!

These birds are wonderful subjects.  This is a crop from a larger image.

Nice photo, and interesting bird, but I am surprised no one has commented that it is wayyy too under-exposed.

I took the liberty of a quick edit to show you what I mean (Before | After)

The impact of the original is lost. "Proper" exposure is not something set in stone.

I like the underexposed version MUCH better.

The first picture maybe not perfectly exposed, but in imagination this is an unknown and mystery bird in the deep dark jungle.
If correct exposed,as Bjørn already mentioned, this mystery is gone. This special bird has turned over to a normal bird in a normal surrounding.
This "Incorrect Exposure" sometimes adds a mystery into a picture i.m.h.O.   8)

Not to detriment of your version I prefer the original one as well as it is the one that creates the ambiance. I will not say "underexposed" but more of low key perfectly exposed one.

Interesting rebuttals and comments. In the original, only the white "sash" near the neck is exposed, the bird mysterious.

For mood and ambiance, I have to agree with these comments.

quite like the heavy dark forest atmosphere of your original image Grahame.

Same bird - different perspective. From his observations, Mongo can tell you this bird is driven by extreme curiosity and  a territorial nature. Love its white bow tie
