Malachite Kingfisher
« on: December 18, 2016, 21:24:31 »
These things are tiny. And 500mm on FF is short. And these things are flighty. I waited for them for a VERY long time and finally today I got them - probably after about 400 shots between yesterday and today, they moved closer (still at a 50%crop). Didnt manage to get the parents in a decent shot. They were sitting in shade - so lots of ISO here

Juvenile Malachite Kingfisher. Note the beak is black - in adults it's bright orange

Elsa:

I am with Erik on what I like here.  #3 is just too busy with the branches and such.  I would probably crop a bit tighter on #1, but appreciate they are already big crops.

What ISO were you using?

Cheers

Randy

Thank you Randy. You are correct on the business as well as the fact that half the bird is not visible. I purely like it as it is one of the sharp close ups I got. Not because it's really any good

ISO on these 3 were at 1000. The 1st image is roughly a 50% crop (long side still is 3800 pixels)  - which isn't too bad on a D800

The first photo is too fluffy. The second is too angry. The third is too cute (except to a small fish swimming below).

Can one keep a kingfisher as a pet if they leave the cover off of their aquarium?

Dave who is bird sitting a large cockatoo who is too silly

Thank you boys

Armando - I was desperate :) But is does show noise which of course I am allergic to usually

Bill - thank you for the kind comment

David Hartman - a cockatoo is usually such a loving creature. I hope you are carrying it around all over the house wherever you go.

Beauts...all three. First one pulls ahead though because of the bokeh which picks up on the beak and the feathers.
