I can’t believe I am reviving such an old thread, but it seemed appropriate…
I will soon visit Yakushima island, where I will attempt to potter around on the mountains. A hiking pole is an absolute must for my broken body, but I also wanted a monopod.
Though once (a little) popular, telescopic hiking poles with a tripod mount are not easy to buy new any more. But I got lucky and found an unused one on an online market.
It’s not exactly a secure mount at the top, and the pole is pretty light. BUT, it’s better than nothing, and I will use a loop of string to anchor the pole to my upper body.
I probably could have used a monopod as a hiking pole, but I would trust something designed for the job (even if it isn’t really designed for another job).
