Hello from Texas
« on: November 17, 2016, 17:55:29 »
Hello all,
Joining a forum is unusual for me. Some introductory remarks about myself.  I don't do any social media. I'm 76 years old. I am fairly computer literate. I use a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
I'm here because I discovered the Naerfoto site, which is very interesting.  In common with Bjorn Rorslett, I also have a tick borne illness, since 1987. A related surgery is Monday and I will be in re-hab for awhile. If I can have my laptop, I will be reading this forum and perhaps commenting. I'm an old guy and old guys like to talk.
I have always been interested in photography, especially the history of photography . I have owned several cameras over the years and have occasionally made some nice pictures. But because of the deterioration of my health recently, I decided to really get serious about photography.
Some years ago I bought a refurbished Nikon FM3a and used it occasionally. Then a couple of years ago I bought a Nikon D200. Which was the beginning of my slide into the Dark Side of digital. (Yeah, I loved the three original Star Wars movies. These things were just old Grade B westerns set in space.) Why Nikon? I lusted after the Nikon F2 when it was introduced. I was using  a Vivitar 450 and a folding Polaroid 210 (I think), which I used selling Polaroids in night clubs. Someday when I know you better I will tell why there is one serious scratch on the bottom of my Polaroid. My bottom healed. Anyway, I thought the little ears on Nikkor lenses were so, I dunno, cool?, awesome?, but set  them apart as something special. (Don't go to analyzing the whys of your actions, you come up with some really stupid reasons.)
I just bought a Nikon D7100. I have been trying to upgrade the firmware, but Windows 7 won't let me get a clean .bin file from the Nikon download. So after my surgery I am going to go deeper into the Dark Side and get an Apple Mac. I got the girl across the street to check on her Mac and it is good.
I have been reading posts on the NikonGear forum and I think this will be a good experience.
Barry

Hi Barry, I love stories and sometimes I feel like an old fart too ... hahaha ... I am only 50, but some days are better some worse. Welcome on board & good luck with your surgery!!!

[scan some polaroids, if you got some leftovers!]

PS: I am an "Bonner" too, because I live in the city called "Bonn"
