In rain and mist
« on: November 16, 2016, 13:20:24 »
Even on a deeply unpleasant morning like today, it's still sometimes possible to look for images.

1. Oak-trees are just coming into full autumn colour.
2. Cormorants on a sand-bar, Loch Tay

the first one especially is gorgeous - the second reminds me of the image of Andreas Gursky - it has potential :)

I also love the first one; the way the yellow color stands out from the fog or mist is really nice.

Thanks Akira - what I like about this shot is the intensity of the colour, in such miserable weather. It was around 11am and to give you an idea of how poor the light was, the indicated exposure at 800iso was 1/25sec at f5.6 and I shot this with the 70-200/4, handheld, leaning against a tree. It's pretty sharp so I'm pleased with that aspect.

I have been there. It is the end of your home loch, isn't it?

Yes - our local loch. I'm down there so often it feels like a second home. This was the scene this morning around 11am -

I missed the first two when they were were posted. The colour and detail in #1 (oak-trees coming into full autumn colour) is spectacular when viewed on a large screen!

Thanks, Mike. Our oaks usually don't turn a nice colour but just go brown/drab. This one was a real exception which is how I noticed it in all the rain yesterday.

Jakov - thank you, also, you are very kind. It's easy to take lots of good landscape photographs, and I'll tell you my secret formula -
1. Live in a beautiful place.
2. It's best to be retired, so you have plenty of time and nothing else to do.
3. Have a large dog which insists on long walks twice a day.
3. Take a camera EVERY time you walk, regardless of weather.

That's it. My secret is out.    8) 8) 8) 8)   ;D

Every place is beautiful as long as you have time, retired or not :D
Thanks for the secret  ;)

Yes, that's a good thought, Jakov.

Here is the same shot but in sun and snow this morning (but I think I prefer the rain and mist version) -
