Day 22 part 2 - a little study in rocks.

22 - 7 fantastic cuboids under a thin layer of vegetation
22 - 8 a man (vertical solidification)
22 - 9 longhorn skull (ferriferous arch on top)
22 - 10 diagonal cutters (about to fall)

Day 22 - bonus.
The Nikon 1 AW1 proved to be hard-wearing.
We were playing with it in the 38-39 Centigrades hot water without any issues.
Easy to clean afterwards.

Bathing:
The main spring brings some quite hot water, unbearable for bathing at the upper stretches.
From down there each side flow brings some cold water and the temperatur of the main stream steps a bit down.
Just find your place

22 - 11 hot spring (AW1)
22 - 12 partly submerged (AW1)
22 - 13 up view
22 - 14 down view

I am confused and overwhelmed by the broadth and width of your selection. I pick the pilons warning that there is a hole in the track & the overview of the waterfalls because the ridge seems to be a repetition of the fall line

Thanks, Frank.
The pilons just make an example of one is different to the others (last to the back left has no ring), and they look strange in a nature environment. The artificial hole was on no concern to me, but the background cliff ties it to the day series. Not more, not less. Not the best of images, but a contrast scene one might step into while travelling Iceland.

Are you referring to the Gullfoss waterfall image (btw: foss = fall)?
You get falls in all variety. Gullfoss is more like a staircase, the main two stages in the first shot, the second showing the deep fall to the downstream.
Instead of straight on as usual it runs 90 degrees left ... remarkeable.

Thomas, your posts still keep me interested!

It is interesting to know that the shrinking lava out there forms cubic shapes instead of the shapes of the hexagonal column (columnar joint).

Also, I wonder what the red and green thingies in 22-13 (up view) and 22-14 (down view) respectively are?  The autumn color and the greenery in the warm temperature thanks to the hot water?

Akira,
These were the only colorful plants In the area. The red ones showing their autumn dress, the green ones living in the water, possibly fed by warmth and maybe minerals or such solved in the water. The area was covered by fading grass as of the time of the year.

Thomas, thanks for the details.  I guess that the hot water also provides the nourishing materials in addition to the warmth.

For some reason I have (may be wrongly) associated Iceland with being treeless.

Are the trees that I am seeing in some of your images native to Iceland or have they been introduced?
