Hey you did some serious hiking to reach very interesting volcanic and biological sites. Wow. How much equipment did you haul on these hikes? One camera / one lens???
For hikes likes this we used touring/climbing rucksacks with approx 35l of volume.
Usually I carried a Df and 1 AW1 and additional equipment, my wife a 5300 w lens. We use them as a pool.
There is always the need for water, food and addtional clothing.
We brought a box full of lenses to Iceland, but only a few made it into
the rucksack on hikes:
FX: 50mm f/1.8 AF/S 70-200mm f/2.8 AF/S II VR, the versatile 17-35mm f/2.8 and the 60mm f/2.8 AFS Macro
DX: 16-85mm 3,5-5,6 G DX,
sometimes 35mm f/1.8 DX
CX: AW 10mm f/2.8, AW 11-27.5mm f/3.5-56
Tripod: Berlebach mini large with levellingBatteries: one additional per camera, 3 SDHC 16GB (or bigger) spares.
Intersting fact is that we finally preferred the AF optics and mostly sticked to the above. Phones were engaged as well.
Compared to the D700 w battery grip the Df feels light weight.
The heavy D700 is in fact the reason why my wife was on the marked for a light versatile bodied Dx, 5100 first, 5300 now.
She started to like the not so light 16-85 though, which again adds a little weight.
