Erik has already posted several versions of the Trollveggen vs power pylons scenery in this thread. I have done this subject many times, but the current trip was my first attempt of using the überlong 1200 mm. I deployed the monster lens atop my big Sachtler ENG2 CF HD and hooked up the D3X to the rig. I immediately ran into depth-of-field issues as the long lens even at f/22-f/32 would not render the pylons and the background cliff-face of Trollveggen in sharp focus simultaneously.
I did two series, one with "foreground" focus, the second with focus moved to the background. Showing here the first sequence to indicate how narrow angle of view the 1200 really delivers even on the FX camera. When I'm done with the current VAT chores, I might get head above the surface and do the second series as well.
On a side note, shutter speeds here ranged from 1/8 to 1/15 sec as the mountain face mostly was in deep shade. This is precisely the situation in which the proper tripod support is critical when such long lenses are brought to bear.
