Hood for Voigtländer 90mm f/3.5 APO-Lanthar SL-II /Nikon

Hi, what hood would you recommend for the Voigtländer 90mm f/3.5 APO-Lanthar SL-II / Nikon. I have lost the small original one, and I need to find a new one.

I prefer to use the Nikon HN-7 on the 90mm.

A pity you lost it because that hood is very versatile and can serve on other lenses as well, including the Coastal Optics 60/4 APO, UV-Nikkor 105/4.5, and the 45/2.8 Ai-P Nikkor.

The HN-35 (for 45/2.8 ) will work, but is very elusive and/or expensive. You can easily make a nice hood yourself, though, by combining a K-4 ring with a 52 > 3940.5 or similar step-down ring. If necessary, add a reversing ring 52-52 mm to get the thread genders lined up correctly. When the pieces come together and match, seal the joins with a few drops of epoxy glue.

The simplest and cheapest solution is just using a K-5 directly.

I have bought for my 90mm apo lanthar a 49mm hood like the one in the link with cap. I don't remember exactly where from, but through ebay. probably from China.

Ridiculously cheap.

If you have the designated close-up attachment for the 90 APO, it has 39 mm threads. Thus making your own hood by combining K-4 with a 52->39 mm step ring is highly favourable.

(in the earlier post I said 52-40.5 or similar step ring, but although most combinations will work, only something ending with 39 mm (female) threads  will directly support the attachment)

Has the SL I  a different filter thread?  The SL II has a 52mm.

Probably not. The SL.2 is 52mm. However, the dedicated close-up attachment is 39 mm and mounts via the special lens hood accompanying the lens. Put a short 39 mm extension ring on top of that to make a nifty little hood also for the close-ups.

52mm to 39mm step down rings can be found on eBay. Would that do the trick as a make shift lens hood for the CV 90/3.5 II?

Partially. You need to extend the step ring a little as well, thus combining a K-4 or similar  as spacer is perfect.

If the need of the extension is to narrower the opening of the hood, 52-37mm step-down ring by Kenko might work?

Nope. You need a spacer to push the step-down ring sufficiently forward so it cuts stray light from the side. Plus as already stated, the dedicated close-up attachment is 39 mm thread.
