D800 and video issue

I used my D800 + 24-70 lens to shoot some video over the weekend - however - the camera was making some "cklicking/clacking" noises -
I have been wondering - could this be due to the ISO being on Auto and the camera recorded a "clicking" sound whenever the ISO changed? I can't see that I am able to check ISO settings on the video meta data.

The clicking sounds can come either from the aperture mechanism or maybe the focus motor. Did you use AF or MF?

Unless anything is wrong, you can exclude the mirror and shutter mechanisms.

I used AF. I was only using single point focus - not on continuous focus. I have not heard this noise before

The clicking appears together with the voice singing. When the voice is silent, the clicking goes away. Could it be a problem with the sound recording level, instead.

If AF-S is done in liveview mode, you only have contrast AF on a DSLR, which can make AF-S more stuttering and noisy. A microphone, close to the lens will record all sorts of noise, and what's almost imperceptible to us when recording, will become annoying when playing back the recording.

It's not related to the voice - it's at very regular intervals on longer video - and in a specific pattern

Set the lens to MF, and retry. If the problem persists, I can't think of anything but the aperture mechanism.

Set everything to manual mode then re-introduce auto settings one by one until the noise returns.

I would suggest to look into decoupling the mic from the camera if you plan to shoot video with any auto settings turned on.

no, its the 24-70 NON VR
I am not using an external microphone.

The internal microphone in the camera will pick up absolutely every unwanted sound including handling noise.
