Easy to get your fishing tackle stuck in that dense mass of water hyacinths clogging the water .... However, perhaps there is where the fish are.

Is this shot from a moving car or other remote vantage point ? The image seems "distant" and thereby detached in a special manner. Not bad, just with the flattened perspective that goes with distance on its own.

The overall rendition in terms of colour also is flat and a bit on the dull side. A Zeiss lens?

I like how they parked the VW beetle in thick and heavy shade :)

I really like the whole set-up, Beetle, animals and the seemingly hopeless fishing waters ;)

Looks quite surreal - something out of an old movie ;)

Colours and all seems fine/nice on my monitor, Bjørn maybe you see a colour profile RGB/sRGB browser issue? is the profile correct in the image?

Yes, Zeiss Otus 28mm.

The image file is set to Adobe RGB(1998). Should be in sRGB for web compliancy.

My Firefox is colourspace-aware and usually displays aRGB nicely, but not this one. Or to be correct, even viewed inside Photoshop as Adobe RGB, the colours look dull and flat as we have seen so many times before with Zeiss lenses. In fact, the Photoshop and Firefox renditions are as similar as they possible can get.

Maybe a polariser was used? That can wreak havoc with colour brilliancy.

The only different thing from what I've always been doing is the Zeiss lens.
Yes, a cpl was used in this pic too.

I don't like to say this, but your polariser simply kills the colours of your pictures. While a polariser might be beneficial for film-based photography, its usefulness for digital photography is less evident. Plus, it can ruin colour brilliancy.

I don't agree.
I leave the cpl all the time in my WA lenses.

I understand and that is exactly why you get those dull and flat looking colours.

However, if this is what you aim for, I rest my case. I can only challenge your choices, not overrule them.

Ok, if that is what you call dull and flat, it is exactly what I like. For a long time.

I see a very saturated and crisp image- a certain kind of 'movie look'

I can kind of relate to the statement about the CPL and understand that and have seen/used this to make a certain type of images similar to the above - and yes it does alter the image/colours and overall balance a lot.

This punch in the image file can be very pleasing or catching for the eye and are often used in advertising.
What lens is this, 28mm?
