Gary, would be curious about your findings on the new toy
Firstly, it has retained the look and feel of the original. It is reminiscent of my Nikon F or Leica M3, solid, highly functional, a well oiled tool. I hope I can explain it ... The complexity of the of the camera is in the inside, but it is very simple to use with minimal menu diving. But if you want to menu dive, the menus are clear and simple and the photog has a lot of options for different setups. For what I shoot and how I shoot ... Everything is right there at my fingertips ... The sophistication of the camera is that it is so elegantly simple ... At one level, the shooting level, it is a camera and doesn't try to be anything else ... And is fully operational at that level. At another level, the menu level, it is a sophisticated photographic computer with all the bells and whistles.
I've only used it once on a walk with the pooch. I armed it with my also newly acquired Fujinon 100-400 and surprisingly, (IIRC), the optical viewfinder worked at 400mm.
The AF is extremely quick. I didn't see any 'significant' differences in AF response between my XT1's and my 1Ds ... But the AF on this XP2 is definitely much quicker than the XT1.
Lastly, for now, the shutter sound is absolutely wonderful, this solid and low ka-click ... Like a recorded SLR but played back at a lower decibel.
Tonight, I will shoot a play. We'll see how it does in the wild.
