The Paris Catacombs.  Beginning in the late 18th century and continuing until 1870 or so about 6 million skeletons bones were transferred from churchyards in the city to old limestone quarries.  In the early 19th century the bones were tastefully arranged, and tourist visits began.  Now officially a museum (http://www.catacombes.paris.fr/en/homepage-catacombs-official-website).

This was taken in Gent, a lovely city where I spent an Erasmus-semester back in the day. The picture was taken during a visit many years after my stay there.

Nice one, Susanne. Getting stranger the more I look at it.

Susanne, this is indeed an intriguing wall.  At first, I thought there is a strong barrel distortion of the lens, but the wall appears to be shaped like that.

Akira, something tries to break through and free? (that was my thought recognising the cracks)

In the sense of Kaijū (strange beast)? A mystery, yes. Probably something evil, held for a long time in that room with the smallish barred window, and now angry.

Thank you, Thomas and Akira. I agree, I remember having a similar feeling about the cracks in the wall. Something trying to get out and get the girl maybe? ;)

From a slightly 'down and out' section of town.

This wall is in Bisbee, Arizona. Nikon D800 with 85/2.8 PC-E.

I actually really like the 85/PC-E as a walk-around lens for reasons like this.
