Please post your images of strange looking walls here:
Austin, TX, March, 2016
Odd arrangements of windows and doors, graffiti, unusual architecture, reflections off glass and anything else out of the ordinary, please.
-
Geez - Ron - that looks like a dinosaur was there :)
-
Ron, it is not fair to start a thread with such a smash hit! Great find!
Elsa, I like this elegant color coordination.
-
Two from Lofoten:
-
the little girl is especially nice - the girl painting and the photo
-
Thank you Akira. I bet there is something in Tokyo within 10 minutes walk from your place.
Love the girl and mushroom BJ.
-
Ron, I will look for some!
-
Two from Lofoten:
Bjørn, the first one is haunting. A girl trying to pick up a poisonous fungus...does the metaphor have something to do with your local myth?
-
Here is a detail from one of the photos I posted. The house is vacated and the window blocked, but somebody has painted the illusion of looking inside a warm, cozy room. He has even signed the painting. Well done.
-
I had such a job for a restaurant. I´m amazed of the textures, forms, colors...
-
Finally I found something worth posting here (hopefully).
11-stitch pano.
-
This is no match to what is here already but that's the one I passed along today on a stroll.
-
Great theme Ron

Interesting strange walls! :)
One extra something from me to the guide.
I can not remember much about this one of mine. It is Montreal, that I know
-
reviving an old thread for the moment, I found this wall interesting because it gives the illusion of depth and angle. It's actually quite flat and shot straight on.
A lock on the Champlain canal.

A few more from Lofoten.
-
And another one from a couple a weeks ago, a farm in the Lake District.
-
seen while seating at a stop light

Armando's shot helped my memory.. probably more in the category vivid than strange - I knew the owner of this bar back in the mid 1990'ies and back then the facade was less vivid and a very original and cozy place to visit for a beer (..or two). It is still considered to be a bar with an original atmosphere in Copenhagen.
I even captured a selfie .. if you look carefully.
-
Low key strange, I suppose...
-
Great examples.
There are many strange walls of course, by form, colour
-
A strange wall in City Hall.
With photo's of all the City Council members
-
Driving through the woods today, came across this wall. I don't even know what it is. Probably the end of the Rutland airport. Whatever it was, it was kind of odd.
-
The walls in the new Tunnel in Spoorzone Tilburg give special light-effects.
-
Perhaps not particularly strange...
-
The various walls presented here are simply stunning. I came late to this thread but I enjoyed every single post!!!
The colors are just wonderful!
-
Perhaps not particularly strange...
But particularly funny :D
-
I assume walls created by nature counts.

The Paris Catacombs. Beginning in the late 18th century and continuing until 1870 or so about 6 million skeletons bones were transferred from churchyards in the city to old limestone quarries. In the early 19th century the bones were tastefully arranged, and tourist visits began. Now officially a museum (http://www.catacombes.paris.fr/en/homepage-catacombs-official-website).

time to pop this thread up again.
A shot from Iceland, Reykjavik to be more precise.
watching the damage done

This was taken in Gent, a lovely city where I spent an Erasmus-semester back in the day. The picture was taken during a visit many years after my stay there.

Nice one, Susanne. Getting stranger the more I look at it.
-
Susanne, this is indeed an intriguing wall. At first, I thought there is a strong barrel distortion of the lens, but the wall appears to be shaped like that.
-
Akira, something tries to break through and free? (that was my thought recognising the cracks)
-
Thomas, you mean Mothra?! :o :o :o
-
In the sense of Kaijū (strange beast)? A mystery, yes. Probably something evil, held for a long time in that room with the smallish barred window, and now angry.
-
Thank you, Thomas and Akira. I agree, I remember having a similar feeling about the cracks in the wall. Something trying to get out and get the girl maybe? ;)

From a slightly 'down and out' section of town.

This wall is in Bisbee, Arizona. Nikon D800 with 85/2.8 PC-E.
I actually really like the 85/PC-E as a walk-around lens for reasons like this.
-
I think you forgot the picture ?
-
Indeed!
Sorry about that.

Definitely a strange wall. Any chance of seeing the wall as it sits in the surrounding 'context'?

Shutters decorated
-
Sorry, Pluton, but I don't think I have any wider shots (and the internet had the same wall but all were close ups). I will be down in Bisbee at the end of March and will try to find the wall again and get one.
My recollection was that it was a retaining wall along a sidewalk.
I will have to make a habit of getting context shots in the future. Don't always think about that...
Thanks for asking!

Good business out there. You won't need a refrigerator to store the materials!

engine works fairies of different kinds (well, let's hope there isn't a hidden massage there)

Here you go, Keith! I snapped a quick shot with my iPhone for you.

Grey wall
-
It remind me of the walls of Saqsaywaman in Perú, differences aside...
-
Paco, Paco, Paco, who might this gentleman be...
-
A singer, geeting ready for the show be means of fresh air, sun and smoke. Some quiet time to tune in emotionally and relax right before the performance

I think this wall is inspired by an artistic landmark in Italy: Il Giardino dei Tarocchi (Tarots' garden) in Capalbio (Tuscany, Italy), Niki de Saint Phalle's masterpiece. Naturally, Niki's work was inspired by Gaudì's work in Barcelona (Parque Guell)
If you haven't visited this place, it's worth a visit. And have a few gigabytes of storage handy, because you'll be shooting like a machine gun...
It took 25 years of work to complete this work (1977-2002), the artist actually lived inside The Empress (she had a bedroom, a living room, a bathroom, and a kitchen inside it)
#1: Rhino inside the empress
#2: Yin and Yang
#3: The back of the Empress
Ciao from Massimo

Perhaps not particularly strange...
Lots of unusual walls but this one made me chuckle.

Modern art walls in Granada, they remind me of Guernika and some sky with spirals

Lovely images, Paco!
Walls are like clouds, everchanging with time and maybe some human action...
#1 Faces. a wall in Bourgogne (Avallon, France). Already published in the Objet trouvé section, somehow became invisible. Maybe I'll have to re-upload it...
#2 a sandstone wall in Périgord, France

Thank you Massimo. Those faces... :o
This is a more mundane strange wall, nature-man armwrestling

Well seen and captured, as always, Massimo!

Paco, you turned the mundane into the unusual. I also like the processing and its Brassai-esque night mood. (Although it might be shot during the daytime...)
-
Thank you Akira. It is indeed daytime processed to taste in lightroom.
-
Not quite strange, just graffiti-ed!

Worthy additions to this thread Paco & Arthur.
Does anyone know if Ron Scubadiver who started this thread is still active - I have not seen him posting for quite a while?

Very interesting Akira. Does it have meaning or just decorative?
Here the front wall of a school for young kids. I find it not inviting at all..

Thank you, Paco. I think it is just decorative. As you would already suspect, these are tiles embedded in concrete. And I would guess that the worker was bored with making similar patterns over and over again. :D

Gosh!
I don't remember it being humid that week - guess this is the accumulated effect over time?

Yes, it is. Humidity here is a constant.
