Very atmospheric scene as well. The roughness overall probably reflects the music?

Or, maybe obsessed about drumming?

Sophisticated rock drummers (or of any genres) "look" like they are banging around the drums, but actually they are using their power very efficiently without stressing their instruments.

Efficiency is a top priority for serious drummers, especially in more physically demanding styles.  When you need power and stamina, efficiency is key.  My drummer regularly video records certain parts of his body up close while practicing to review later in slow motion and pick out inefficient motions.

Very much appropriate.

Bursting with atmosphere. Great shot and very suiting PP. I like it, could be shown in a stage documentation.

Interesting how an image with so little of the face can impart so much and work so well.
The Black Sabbath reference is also very fitting when looking at color and pose which has something daemonic.
Das Tier/The beast is what comes to my mind regularly with certain drummers, unfortunately not the best ones. So far the top notch guys always seem to do it effortlessly.

I wonder if it would survive culling in a larger series where there are more details in other shots. Just thinking of my own culling process and wondering whether I should leave more room for less defined images.

Jakov, I love Black Sabbath, just not Black Sabbath knock-offs. 😉

Afx, culling live music photos is quite different from culling other kinds of shots in my experience.  While superior detail is usually what the photographer in me prefers, the important part of live music is the energy and emotion.  I have deleted many shots that were amazingly crisp and tonally pleasing for far less technically pleasing images because of the expressions captured alone.  And the decision is well worth it everytime.  If you are striving for technical excellence, live local music is a bad place to be.  Extremely dark, fast moving and typically the worst lighting possible.  Say hello to blaring 100% red or blue lights, say goodbye to technical quality.
