Big Bertha. Bertha never gives up.

Bertha gets used on some old lenses when the retaining rings are stuck tight and cross-threaded.

Impressive collections of old nice camera's and lenses pass by !

My little friend, almost sold her but decided to keep if I really want to go compact and stealth. User interface is still one of the best and nice macro capabilities !

A few years ago, I encountered a guy with a really weird camera contraption in Kew Gardens, London. He had a 3-D Stereo rig for stills and video using synchronised Nikon D800 cameras. First time I have seen the beefiest 150 mm class Sachtler tripods in use outside cinematography.... The massive video fluid head alone must have cost the equivalent of a small car.

Unknown to me. The guy told me he was hired by Sky TV for a documentary. I don't watch much TV and certainly not Sky Channel.

Manfrotto Modopocket.
Always have it in my pocket(!) when I use the Ricoh.

Tiny cameras and huge lenses hold a certain attraction of their own ....

The "Safari Dream Lens" of the '80s, a 200-400 mm f/4 Nikkor ED, here on its designated position atop the Sachtler ENG 2 CF HD tripod with the Video 20 Fluid Head. CPU-modified of course like virtually all my manual lenses. For once Nikon managed to make a sturdy cantilevered tripod foot. Thus proving this feat *can* be done.

Less than 500 units were made, so it is a quite elusive lens to track down. Took me nearly 15 years to find a pristine sample at a reasonable price. Despite its vintage, the lens is super sharp and an ideal companion for working with landscapes and details. Would prefer one of its modern sibling for safaris though, as the focusing of the 200-400 AIS is on the slow side thanks to its bulk and massive weight. I used the 200-400 AFS VR (1) on my trip to South Africa in 2009. While the modern lens was perfect for wildlife, it cannot hold a candle to the old 200-400 when it comes to landscapes.

Fantastic thread, I really like it when people take time to do decent product shots!

Brian in your avatar image, what all black Nippon Kogaku is on the camera?

Keep them coming ;)

BTW I love that big lens spanner!
