Fons, moody light is the main subject in these series of topics, I don't care what that light source is.
With backlit images the main light source is coming from behind the subject rendering the subject black (as in out of DR range) or lit with subtle and moody reflective light.
Your first image with the chairs in the church nails it, in your second image you completely killed the mood by lifting the shadows to normal light levels.
Here's a similar image where the light was trying to make its way into the alley enhancing the tunnelling effect of the small alley.
