New Tamron lenses - 85/1.8VC and 90/2.8VC Macro

Looks very interesting. I used to own the old 90 macro and was very fond of it...apart from its sluggish AF.
The 85/1.8 could have real potential as well.

Indeed interesting, to that they launch the TAP-in console with similar functionality as the Sigma USB Dock.

It seems you're able to adjust the sensitivity of the focus ring. I take that to imply that the new lenses are focus by wire and that the focus throw can be adhusted.

Note that Tamron now introduces electronic diaphragm also for Nikon F mount lenses, 90/2.8 and 85/1.8.

The VC on the 85 is quite interesting

I always struggle shooting the 85 at speeds under 1/250, usually reaching such speeds is not a problem, but for the odd shot where one prefers to keep the ISO at low levels I see it being useful

Hand held shooting a thin DOF 85 can be a challenge. That's one of the big drawbacks with the Zeiss MF 85'ers.

So i have noticed on the few zeiss lenses i have wide open the green confirmation dot is off and seeing through the viewfinder seems harder than in comparable situations with nikkors?

Why is the green dot off?

I doubt it will be optically much better than the current models, which is already highly regarded.  Unless there are significant improvements somehow, I'd see the best thing about this one is driving the prices of the previous VC model lower on ebay.

the current 105VR starts showing the effects of diffraction earlier than the 105D by almost a stop in my tests. i also noticed this the first time i shot with the 105VR when i bought it new some years ago. the actual t-stop is also different, by around 0.7 stops (wide open). if the Tamron shows better handling of diffraction then i am probably sold  :o :o :o

I did this test last year, around summer i think. but i noticed this first in 2012 the first time i got the 105VR.

You are far more well versed on this lens series than I am!  I hope the new one corrects the issues you've found with it!

i shoot bugs every opportunity i got  :o :o :o

the 85mm f/1.8VC looks exciting as well. I tried their 35mm and 45mm and they were both AWESOME lenses for their price. the build quality is also great

these zeiss lenses i mention have no cpu contacts, so my only guess now is that register distances are not accurate,( which is more sensitive at larger apertures).
