I've heard that there is a young talented designer at Sigma who designed 35/1.4 and 18-35/1.8.

Lensrentals were very positive about the mechanical quality of the Sigma 35/1.4 Art, when they did a teardown of that lens. It seems that Sigma has come very far with both the mechanics and optics of their lenses.

The Sigma MC-11 adapter makes things look interesting even for the Sony E mount with full electronic integration.

Looks like a live music photographer's dream!  For live music, f/2 is the aperature I stay at for good images so a f/1.8 lens is pretty ideal.

I wish Nikon would get a little innovative too.  i appreciate the core tech being pushed, but wish there were more interesting things happening.

Not only live music, but also competitive dancing and possibly gymnastics.

Well done that man!

Combine the 50-100/1.8 + MC-11 adapter and the coming Sony A6300 with a silent shutter, and you can shoot live music, dance etc. with total silence. The Sony A6300 offers a fully electronic shutter, but it remainscto be seen, if there will be banding issues with that shutter.

I've been wishing for a 50-100 zoom with high picture quality and decent mechanical design for years.  I'd have settled for f/2.8 or f/2.3, but this could be nice...if it isn't too gigantic.
Edit:  Ooops...it's APS-C and gigantic.  Oh well...

Indeed : 1.5kg, 82mm filter size...

But most remarkably: 15 elements in 21 groups- now that's an achievement!

The Olympus 35-100/2 for 43 DSLRs was about just as big as the Sigma 50-100/1.8.

Probably some Star Trek technology in it :)

As much as I like my Sigma 24 1.4 Art and 35 1.4 Art, Sigma's new lenses confuse me.  The 24-35 f2 being case in point.  I do not know one person that has bought one.  It may, or may not be, a great lens, but the focal range, size and weight just make no sense to me.  The rumoured lens for Dx falls in the same category for me. If I used 50mm more, I would seriously consider the 50 1.4 Art.  I would be much more likely to reach for the 58 1.4 , 85 1.4 (or 1.8 ) and an Ai/Ais 105 or 135.

I agree that Sigma have upped their game but I might have jumped at the Fx 135 f2 OS Art that was rumoured for so long.  Even the oft rumoured 85 1.4 Art might have made me think.
If Dx keeps improving to the point it can be used for less than good light, at indoor sports/events the lens at 75-150 at 1.8 may sell.

I think some of their lenses are produced just to show they can make them  ;)

By introducing DX lenses nobody will buy??

Those interested in these type of lenses mainly shoot FX or smaller formats for their smaller lenses. The masses still using the DX format are not interested in these type of behemoth (sorry, playing Fallout 4 at the moment) lenses, they want small zooms that weigh nothing.
Cheers,
