Cool, Richard, reports from the Frontline  ;D .
The inclusion of a tripod foot (if correct) on a 7 inch lens is sort of scary and, again, makes me wonder at the intended market but you could be right on the Vids.  No mention of being de-clicked mod.
Interesting to see if Nikon has any surprises and if they show the rumoured 1" compacts.

Have fun  :)

the tripod mount might be removable  :o :o :o
i am currently not sure as to where this lens fits in a pro's kit. maybe like what was previously mentioned here it might be a very good portrait lens for DX  ::)

these weird sigma zooms sell pretty well here in japan. back home, it's the video guys that buy the 18-35. i tested that lens once and the manual focus ring is so smooth almost feel like a manual focus lens, i swear. it is all quality except for the lack of weather sealing.

I know Sigma has been upping their game in terms of sharpness, QC and innovation, but that is a major selling point for me.  Enjoying the process is a big part of photography for me and AF lenses do not feel pleasant to focus.  None that I have touched anyhow, and I am admittedly spoiled by my Ai-s lenses.

I was hoping for a lens like this but not at this weight.  I have long wanted an update to the old 75-150 f/3.5, or a smaller DX version of same at 50-100mm, but at a modestly fast speed.
Sigma did have a DX 50-150/2.8, and Tokina had a 50-135/2.8, both of modest size (67mm filter). Both discontinued. Sigma replaced the original 50-150 with a new OS model the same size as the FX 70-200/2.8, but that's also discontinued.

I am actually one of those strangers owning the Sigma 18-35 and not for video.
It indeed has a limited zoom range and is quite heavy for a DX lens, but I like using it a lot wide open and you can focus relatively close.

On this new 50-100/1.8 which I have no doubt will be excellent optically, I will pass due to weight, want to keep my DX setup relatively light.

Thanks Richard and the focus range makes it very flexible within its limited zoom range.

If one is a Sports/wildlife/event shooter that has stuck with Dx you are probably already using some big, heavy lenses so the size and weight will not be a bother.

I may be a minority, but I am not one of them. I consider myself a DX wildlife shooter and my heaviest tele is the Nikkor 300/4 VR with TC-14E III and I sold my Nikkor 500/4P and Tamron 150-600, mostly for the weight (being a walk around wildlife photographer and not so much a fixed spot one).

Thanks bjornthun and a D7100 Richard (now mostly without grip, in the past D300 with grip).

I picked up info on the new Sigma MC-11 adapter from Sonyalpharumors.  Looks as if Sigma and Nikon are still not working together at all.  Just pleased that my Commlite adapter is excellent with my Nikon F Sigma 24 1.4 and 35 1.4 Arts on the Sony.
What is quite interesting is that B&H , while not listing the specs, are listing the TCs 1.4 and 2.0 as accessories.  If true, the tc 1.4 makes the lens more interesting at that size and weight.

It's much easier to adapt Canon lenses (and Sigma mount), since these have a completely electronic interface. Even the Sigma OS lens stabilizer will work in conjunction with Sony IBIS, and they will share the task of image stabilizing.

Roland, I do have the larger Sigma 50-150 f/2.8.   Nice lens, but it weighs about the same as the new Sigma lens!  I also finally noticed that the new Sigma lens doesn't have OS.  If I'm doing slow, contemplative photography then I seldom need image stabilization, but when one is on the go (for me, a prime time to use a short tele zoom) then it can come in really handy at times.

The new lens does not hit the sweet spot for me.
