Robert, this final edit is very nice and might make the best print.  After all the versions, the first one, with the overexposed hot patch of sky, still has its charms.  Maybe it lives in two versions?

Thank you Øivind, I was so amazed with what Lightroom 'Auto' adjust produced that I went with it.

I have to adjust myself to accept a darker image isn't necessarily bad.  I agree on the overcooking, I used to play with images for days trying to extract detail and effect I knew was there but struggled to reveal.  The images often looked so overworked and overcooked that having got the effect I wanted I did it over again with a clean file without all the intermediate step to get a much cleaner and fresher result.

Yes, I agree with you Fons,  normally I would have bracketed five exposures at .3 stop but I was just having a casual walk with my son on the fells, not really geared up for masterpieces!  We are going up again this afternoon, exploring slate mines this time... Who know what I will come back with.  ::)

Sod all...  :'(  I forgot to take a CF Card.  ::) ::) ::)

Mind you we did explore one of the mines, unofficially.  Enormous caverns below ground blasted out of solid rock.  It keep this post on topic, there must have been clouds of smoke from all the black powder used to blast the tunnels.

Thank you Keith, I am hoping to make a print of it, a bit of a happy accident!

One final time...  De-fringed, the bright skyline suffered from severe cyan-magenta CA fringing.  I ended up having to remove it by hand, the ACR de-fringing left a thin grey, de-saturated outline where the fringes were.

Bottom of dooming clouds.  It eventually started to rain accompanied by some thunder roars and lightnings.

When I was in primary school (more than 50 yrs ago), Mount Etna was credited with a height of 3263 m.
Nowadays, the summit is variously credited: textbooks say 3343 m, google says 3350 m, Wikipedia says 3326 m. Other sources say 3330 m.

Anyhow, in 50 years this volcano has grown by more than 60 meters!
