Hm, could the old centre (I notice the facade irons used in the past) of any Dutch town :) No specific markings to recognise the location.

Thanks for commenting - this is in Groningen, I belive from Pluimerstraat, in the opposite direction of the nearby canal.

I recall spray painting tool boxes (to prevent rust) in the driveway.  I put down paper but I forgot to close the garage door.  My motorcycle had a fine mist of paint that took a few hours of work to remove. :-[
Great story Dogman. When I was a kid I spray painted a model F1 car white in my room. It was fun until my mother noticed the whole room was covered in white mist ;D

It must have been a relief that she did not paint it in front of your house!

Here's another bike. A bit further away..

BTW: all photos taken with Fuji X100V

An excellent choice for an urban cyclist.

Thanks Anthony. I'm happy with their performance. So far - knock on wood - no punctures :D

I was fortunate to attend a stop on the Motorcycle Cannonball Rally in Battle Creek, MI.   The participants have to ride motorcycles the were built in 1929 or earlier. They had a 3800 mile trip planned, starting in Michigan and ending up on South Padre Island in Texas!  Amazing really.

The reason I am posting the pictures here, is that I was so struck by the similarity of these early motorcycles to bicycles.  This 1916 Excelsior still had pedals!  In this case they were used to start the engine, after which they disengaged, but still, the evolution from bicycle to motorcycle was clear.

Brakes weren't much more than bicycle brakes either on this cycle.  I asked the young rider how he could possibly stop the machine, he kind of smiled and lifted his boot to show my his primary stopping mechanism. Note all the tread worn off the front of the sole.  I hope he had several pairs of boots with him to complete the trip!
