Rotating Collar for Nikon?
« on: February 04, 2016, 14:41:10 »
Is there any simple rotating color that has Nikon F Mount with the Least extension... and no additional glass?

Yes, I have that one. Here is what I need. I have my D810 on the end of the Rollei X-Act 2 bellows system, but it only mounts horizontal. I like to shoot vertical, but the Rollei is so heavy that turning it sideways would be a real hassle. I just was wondering whether there is any way to mount a camera (Nikon) so that I get a vertical rather than a horizontal position. I am sure that you or nfoto would know if this is possible and just how.

That's right. I am trying to get LIFT and SWING into the equation. It is odd someone has not made an adapter for a bellows that does not have that built in, so that it turns the camera 90 degrees. If you can think of anything, let me know. Thanks!

I would guess you could turn the adapter between 0 deg and 90 deg,,,

Take a couple of close ups of the F mount adapter and bellows mount

It is totally standard. The mount on the Rollei is like the mount on the PB-4, a male F-Mount ready to receive the Camera's female. The camera is a D810. Nothing unusual. My question is since we know what is standard, how do we build a mount that rotates that male mount 90 degrees (in whatever direction makes sense)?

That is the problem of the Rollei, you can not rotate the 810, with pn-11 you can not tilt because of vignetting. With the Horseman vcc pro you can rotate 360°.

Actually there is a very easy solution to this. The Novoflex PROLEI Bellows Adapter (Leica M39 thread) is a wide circular piece, in which an M39-Nikon/F-Mount adapter is mounted. This PROLEI adapter can simply be rotated 90-degrees and locked into place and there you have it. It is an operation that takes all of two seconds to rotate from horizontal to vertical or vice versa.

Problem solved.

The Rollei and the Novoflex Balpro bellows parts are interchangable. It takes no longer to change than an L-Bracket does, actually less time.

It could be easily done on a lathe.
Make a turning collar that mounts directly to the end of bellows and the F-mount to it.
2~3 hours work
6061 or 7075 aluminum recommended

Is the round novoflex plate not turnable?

Here is a photo of the Rollei X-ACT2 Bellows, with the round adapter with the Nikon male mount ready to received the camera. This round plate can be rotated faster than changing an L-Bracket.
