There are really no service/repair manuals for these Nikkors. Some exploded parts diagrams exist. May I ask what the problem is?

We cannot put it together, I did find some info on the Net-but only about version Ai, looks like Ai-S is different.

Any idea what to do??

We cannot put it together, I did find some info on the Net-but only about version Ai, looks like Ai-S is different.

Has it been totally disassembled or..?

Several things has to come together at the same time;

Aperture leaver follower must be able to catch the stop down leaver. The mechanism that stops the lens down. Small leaver

Aperture setting on lens must catch aperture ring setting. The mechanism that determine how far down the aperture will stop down. A little u-shaped sliding thing must be at f/5:6 (you must guess)!!!  and then set aperture ring at f/5.6

The tap of the CRC element must catch the guide inside the helicoil assembly

Then the top indication screw must slide into the top notch of the helicoil assembly

Erik. I bet you can asspemble this lens in the dark with closed eyes after 10 cans of beer. Great "head cinema" description.
