I take possession of my 18-35 G glass very soon.  The 16-35 was just too big and bulky for my liking.  Up to now I’ve been using a 17 and 20 primes. It will be interesting to compare the results.

i believe that the 16-35VR is made in china. now, I do understand that made in china does not mean much these days but that might add to the problem that you are having.

The 16-35 VR is/was made in Japan until 2017, thereafter in Thailand
Another Austrian Terminator in California
