Just follow my suggestion and save the optics. Plus the contact block.
No could do...I simply had to try to rescue the poor thing. But, yup, it is all plastic inside...not convincing. And, repair is a nightmare because the plastic gets statically charged so easily it acts as the worlds most eager dust magnet.
I got a new aperture unit so work is in progress to make something useful out of it...at least that's what I aim for. Problem is to separate the front lens unit so I can get to the salt spots. Not too critical as the spots won't interfere with light entering the optics. If no success, I still have the parts amongst which a contact block comes in handy when Bjørn supplies me with yet another CPU. Looking forward to having you over here come summer.
