AF-S Nikkor 50 f/1.4 G in a bad state
« on: January 25, 2016, 19:32:54 »
Another project. Badly affected by ?saltwater and one aperture blade that has lost one of its two toes. Depending on price, a new aperture assembly might be ordered.
Then a thorough cleaning will have to be performed....if I can be bothered...
Construction wise I suspected this lens to be far from its manual brethren and taking it apart confirms this. No wonder it lacks the gold ring!
Here are a few pics showing the interior scene.

Are these lenses thrown after you, Sten?

I wouldn't bother unless the lens electronic prove to be functional.

They are  ::)
I see a new nick approaching...The Cleaner.

I am thinking along the same lines Bjørn...salty fluids and electronics is a bad match.

Better be The Cleaner than The Reaper :D

Test the lens to see whether it provides the correct data to the camera and the AF motor is alive. Otherwise, just play around with the optics. Perhaps you can manage to clean off the salt residues, remove the defunct iris,  and and put the bare optics into a focusing extension to make yourself a ultra bokeh-ish kind of lens.

Thanks for the pointers! I never throw out lens parts...they've come to rescue now and then.

Just follow my suggestion and save the optics. Plus the contact block.

No could do...I simply had to try to rescue the poor thing. But, yup, it is all plastic inside...not convincing. And, repair is a nightmare because the plastic gets statically charged so easily it acts as the worlds most eager dust magnet.
I got a new aperture unit so work is in progress to make something useful out of it...at least that's what I aim for. Problem is to separate the front lens unit so I can get to the salt spots. Not too critical as the spots won't interfere with light entering the optics. If no success, I still have the parts amongst which a contact block comes in handy when Bjørn supplies me with yet another CPU. Looking forward to having you over here come summer.

:) my kind of attitude , when a schematic is available, I'll dig to try and find what is not working in the electronics, although miniaturization and SMT components often are beyond my abilities
