it's all about competition by lumofisk, on Flickr (rare combination of horses and boats, I felt it matches here)

MF, love it  :) .  My kind of action and well captured.  One of those images that even a touch of motion blur would work  ;) .  Great background for the image.

So what in the heck were you doing along side that you had time to get the shot???
Many thanks for posting.

Many good, interesting images in the Theme.

Very nice thread. I used to do off shore racing in the Aegean late 80's early 90's, unforgetable experience. But, I was not a photographer then. First attachment: sailing in the Saronicos gulf. Second: a foggy day.

Elsid, last image is very much to my liking and it reminds me of home. Mediterranean sea, south of Spain, with a lot of huge boats crossing in and out

Golunvolo, I live in a seaside suburb south of Athens, which is about 30 kms from the commercial part of the port of Piraeus (our biggest commercial port). Therefore, you can see these ships everyday. The day the picture was taken (with the Nikkor 300mmE)
it was cloudy and a bit foggy. I assume the ships you see are crossing the Gibraltar straight, so traffic is on the "heavy" side.

Yes, they are, and the traffic is really heavy. With the right wind and clear skies you can see them all in a little corner of our planet with 2 continents, 3 countries and at least four languages all very close to each other were the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean.
The color of the water is pure mediterranean, makes me feel at home.
