To followup on the current solar storm reported in the May thread ( https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=11202.msg208822#msg208822 ) it has already reached a maximum strength of Kp 8. Lots aurora images from US "lower 48" have been posted at Spaceweather.com, while there is no dark to enjoy it here. First a recall when the culprit, AR4100 started appearing again for the 3rd time May 25, previously posted in the May thread, and then a capture of its current position in the upper middle frame from today, June 1. Nikon 500PF+ TC-20E III and Baader AstroSolar film ND 5.0 on ASI678MC astro camera,  stack of the best 15% of 1500 frames captured in 12-bit mode. Open in new tab for larger versions.

Yesterday, the sky wasn't really favorable for those who wanted to observe the lunar eclipse. I'm glad I chose a different location than my usual spot in the middle of the fields, where I'm always alone. Many people went there, including families with children. Even though they couldn't see a single minute of the eclipse, the children had to go to bed before the clouds cleared, everyone was in a good mood, a very pleasant evening, sociallly speaking.
Finally, the clouds parted for a few minutes only.

9-day moon at 17:48, April 25th in Tokyo.

Nikon Z30 and Ais Nikkor 400mm/f5.6 ED IF.  The silent shutter mode and 2-sec. self timer served well.

Good ones Akira.

Weve had clear day & night skies in the UK for several days now.
Its allowed good visibility of the moon - you've taken advantage of that well with these two shots

Thank you, Colin.  In Japan, the atmosphere is more and more humid as we enter into spring followed by the unpleasant rainy season.  So I need to take advantage of rather cool days so that I can aim at the moon through drier, less hazy air.  These two pictures were both takin on such occasions.  :)
