I haven't touched the CPU, the lens looked brand new when I received it.  Just clicked it on in manual mode and it worked like any Ai or Ai-S.  Didn't notice a different battery behavior on the D700 and Df. Perhaps the pin-out is removed?  I am not really that technical.  ;)   If the CPU-operation is simple, yes please.

I have spare parts with me, so at least we can take a closer look.

When I got my 80/2.8 AF (many years ago), it short-circuited the battery of my D2X within a few hours. The reason is that Nikon has changed the positions of the power and grounding pins for the modern lenses. If the CPU and contact block are replaced all is well except for the AF, which cannot work on a modern Nikon.

Thanks for the offer and information.

On the Net is hardly any information about this lens (with regard to field-experience) apart from your review. But it's a chapter of the 'Nikkor - The Thousand and One Nights'  http://www.nikkor.com/story/0023/

I was secretly wondering how you would get all of that in JA's Beemer, but turns out, you don't  :D
Getting all Bjørns lenses in a Beemer would be a challenge indeed, luckily I have a Bimmer with room for Bjørn and all the lenses he can carry 8)

Probably only a handful of BMW owners will get this joke, for the rest of us:
- Bimmer: BWM car
- Beemer: BMW motorcycle
- Beamer: Projector used to project images or movies on a white screen or wall

Its like saying your Nikon E lens is a Nikkor ;D
Cheers,
Jan Anne

I have the feeling there is a lot to learn for me over the next couple of days, not just photography  ;D

I didn't know that, so i offer my sincere apologies. I am not one of the in-crowd  ???

260 last time I checked  8)

Something tells me however that your S8 drives a lot more relaxed above 200 than my tiny Bimmer which becomes quite a handful at those speeds :o

a small delay in air traffic but landed safely in Amsterdam and was greeted in Deen Haag by Jakov who took me to see a strange performance, the same movements repeated again and again, looked like great fun and for sure was fun to shoot  ;D

Just landed in NL and picked up at Schipol by Jan Anne. A few more morning coffee cups and I'm ready to join the throng :D
