Edit Challenge 5
« on: September 19, 2015, 13:25:21 »
Andrea chose me as the "winner" of Edit Challenge 4, and as a result I had to find a photo for number 5.
This is a dull and flat landscape photo, and it absolutely needs some editing.
So go ahead and do whatever you like with this one:

It just needs some coloring and cropping to my idea  ;)

Some LightZone work. Posting the LZN jpeg, so people with LZ can check or use it as a starting point.

Needs to be B&W for me with the contrasty foreground.

I was struck anew by how good the D3x files are. Quite amazing. I think D3X files compare quite favorably to the D810 except for possibly some noise issues. OK maybe there is a little bit less DR, but that doesn't matter as much as we like to think, perhaps?

I've been indulging myself in Square Crops recently.

1) It's just the sand in my 1st version. With a tiny little strip of tension at the top. What wonderful patterns the winds have made!

2) My 2nd version is a more conventional square scene from Photo Ninja with a small tweak in NX2.
I tend to get too heavy-handed with the PN detail slider.  ::)

3) I had some trouble with the sky. Bjørn J, did you use a polarizer or filter?
When I tried to click-white some clouds for a little brightening, I got some pinks and cyans.
The 3rd version is my *failed* attempt at going with that colourful sky.
I think that we might expect some angels to fly out from behind the mountain at this point!!  :P ;D
Gotta back off this colour a bit, methinks.

My attempt of, perhaps, a straight forward pictorial style.  ;D

Really Bjørn, That's simply because we two are very much alike, as you know, in both personality and so on! :-) Love you Bjørn, I hope we can meet soon again!!??

After failing to possibly match an inner associative picture of candyfloss and blue ribbons through color shifting in L*ab and some layer technique, I decided to go with a pretty straightforward "clean window" RAW development plus cleaning in Photoshop. The olympic spirit is alive.

Trying something different, although the original framing was very good.

Then attempting a not so subtle night scene:
