Sometimes accidents are better then the intended photo. I have seen some interesting photos by intention and some by accident on this thread.

I recently wanted to photograph the bunch of cameras I own and use. As it turned out the photos ended up being boring and drab. Kind of like the weather on that day, which was the reason why I was indoors with an itchy trigger finger in the first place.

Here is the boring original.

What saved the day however was an unintentional photo I made before switching to manual exposure and 1/200th of a second. Here is what the scene looked like with a 5 second exposure, handheld

So although not OoF, the motion blur and long exposure with a mix of flash and tungsten gave me an image I like to use as background for my Flickr page

And rightfully so, it's very nice and indeed very different.

The first one is my favorite.
The dynamics coming from back to forth, unsharp vs sharp foreground, the dark, rich and red central element.
Ya, like.

In the tale of Alaskan native tradition, the aurora is the spirits that are playing football in the sky.

A handheld shot Øyvind? I've taken a few of those but it still remains to get a sharp one of the aurora :) I guess football season in the sky is almost over since light has taken over for darkness?

Thanks for commenting - yes almost, strong auroras could still be visible at present time. In the image the moon was also around, contributing to lighting but on the other side of the "field".  :)
Memory is not clear on this point, but I believe the shot was accidental as I picked up the D5100 from the ground before an exposure finished (tripod busy with the tracker and D7100) or I quickly released it before it was stable on the ground during a sudden outburst.

Øivind - I think the link is broken. I don't see any photo.
