What I hated most about the photo chemicals was the disposal....into the public waste water system....where it doesn't belong.

Agree. But I also hate it to work with 'chemicals' especially in the dark.

Compressed and uncompressed 14bits RAW plus 8 new lenses in the coming 6 months, a great day indeed :)

DPReview tested the uncompressed 14bits RAW files and confirmed they are proper 14bits files:

Sadly the upgrade for the a7S isn't available for the upcoming NG event, would have been a nice opportunity the test it out.

I'm curious if Sony is going to offer the firmware upgrade for the existing models like A7II and older.

One strange behaviour (or the feature) I noticed when I had RX1R was that the 14bit (now I suppose that was "compressed") quality was lowered to 12 bit when the long exposure noise reduction was applied.  I don't know much about the mechanism or the reason.  I hope this behavior is also addressed.

Yes, they introduced it with the a7SII and will update a selection of cameras:
Additionally, they have announced plans to add user selectable compressed or uncompressed 14-Bit RAW still image capture via firmware update to additional cameras beginning with the recently introduced α7R II full-frame mirrorless model.

So after the a7RII probably the a7II and hopefully my a7S is next in line.

At 12MP is don't care about the increased file size btw, bring it on :)
