The host plant seems to be a Solidago Goldenrod? There are several insects capable of making impressive stem galls on this genus.

My son is the young naturalist who told me about it. He is very excited to learn that several insects could be responsible and wants to dissect one of the galls.

Thank you, Birna  :)

He'll probaby find eggs or already hatched grubs inside. If he rears the stuff in an enclosure, the true identity will eventually be revealed.

Apparently, the Solidago species are greedly devoured by a high number of insects and fungi. Some are just predators, others are leaf miners or gall makers.

The "standard" European site for plant parasites compiles a very long list,

https://bladmineerders.nl/host-plants/plantae/spermatopsida/angiosperma/eudicots/superasterids/asterids/campanulids/asterales/asteraceae/asteroideae/astereae/solidagininae/solidago/genus-solidago/

Poor plants. They don't stand a chance.

I had that one as well, but sold it off. Just kept the Voigt 15mm f/4.5 SL in F-mount since it looked nice.
