Campion Photo, founded in Brussels in 1936, is closing its doors after almost 90 years in business. I was taking a last look at their collection of old Nikkors and spare parts when the owner said to me: ‘I'm going to show you a lens that you'll probably never see anywhere else.' He went into the back room and came back with a large wooden box: I found it in a cupboard, forgotten by everyone.

of course you bought it right away

I think there is a similar lens somewhere in my cupboards :)

Did you buy it?

No, I hesitated but I don't have a camera big enough to host it :).
The optical performance are stunning though, according to the test reports attached. He told me it was designed for large technical chambers to copy Japanese or Chinese calligraphy, with no distortion nor chromatic issues.

For what have you used it?

I sure do not need a 900mm lens

You don't know this now -- however, you do :)

By the way just checked and my lens was the APO-Nikkor 610mm f/9, not 900mm. I used it on an 8x10" camera back in the dark ages of  [sheet] film.

The 610 is much smaller, at only 40% of the weight of the 900 (1450gr vs 3570) and 110mm mount vs 140mm.

My daughter was visiting the engineering racing team at the University of Guelph open house. This was their simulator. She was manoeuvring back onto the track rather than holding the thing in oversteer. I think....

Very good, Daniel! Your reflection adds to the forlorn feeling of being outside and looking in.
Many thanks Ian

I love the traffic sign that shows us the way to ultimate confusion, I guess?
