I just ckecked: the Z4.5/400S is 30 Gramms heavier and 3 Centimeters shorter, so about same same
Hmm,
300PF with FTC II : 971g (weighed without collar as that is optional), length  ca 18 cm with FTC II adapter.
Roland's list:
400/4.5 S weight 1245/1160  (last number without tripod foot?)  length 234.5 mm
That is some heavy 30 grams, and long 3 cms   ;D
So at best 400/4.5 S ca. 200 gram heavier and  5.5 cm longer - it compares closer to the 500PF without FTC adapter.

Many thanks in advance, Daniel - that would be great. To me, it would be very interesting to see how it fares in landscapes similar to your great mountain shot(s) with the AF-S 300mm PF, like this one:

From my balcony - first sunny day - crazy you can see some ski tracks on the right side!
Z8 & Z 400mm 4.5 uncropped

The later one with the Zf at close to night:
f4.5; ISO 11'400; 1/30" handheld

300PF + TC14E3 + FTZ = 1128 g & 26,5 cm see above picture

Z4.5/400S = 1160 g & 23,5 cm as given in spec sheet

they are only comparable with the teleconverter

Oops, missed that the TC was included. :-[  However I rather grab the 500 PF then.  8)

What a lovely mountain view to enjoy from your own balcony. That ski route is not for beginners :-)

Our main river now is largely devoid of ice, whilst tribuaries are generally still frozen all over.

Late evening IR.

Nikon Z5, Nikkor 70-180mm f/2.8. Kolari 720 clip-in filter.
