It works in that sequence since the TC is F-mount. Unfortunately, Nikon has severely limited the options for using the TC14Z, thus you cannot simply add this TC to any Z-mount lens which fits. Or to the FTZ since the latter physically blocks the TC14Z. A pity as the Z-version of the 1.4X is really good. It works wonders on the 70-180/2.8Z and the 400/4.5Z.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the 70-180/2.8 and TC14Z.

The lens is a dream come true!
Because I have the 4/300PF and the 14E3 I skipped this one. As soon as I got too much money I will buy a Z9 & the Z4.5/400S ...
I've got this combination of 300mm PF and TC14E - the PF is handy to carry in the mountains where a larger lens is just too much

Misty and cold today...
Z8 & Z 400m 4.5

I was being lazy and shot out of the balcony with a warm lens and I suspect massive thermal effects which resulted in a even more misty picture

Oh yes, lazy or even cold-sensitive photographers: a few weeks ago I opened the window to photograph the full moon. From the comfort of my room. None of the photos were sharp and I was already doubting the quality of the 400mm 4.5. It was only later that I realized that the living room radiator between the lens and the moon was making an unwanted contribution to the image result.
You definitely have to watch out for heat diffraction at 400mm.

These cheerful Tussilago flower heads are just what I need on a gloomy day :)

Again, the old champion Ultra-Micro-Nikkor 28mm f/1.8 on a modified Nikon 1V1.

Spring is been severely delayed by cold weather, but the calender says it should be spring? The little Tussilago farfara read the calender news, however, and decided to raise their little flower heads aboveground.

Ultra-Micro-Nikkor 28mm f/1.8 on one of my modified Nikon 1V1 bodies. If 1V1 is "obsolete" by today's standards., what about the UMN 28/1.8 from early '70s? Obviously merely industrial waste, to be thrown away. I'll keep that in mind.

Oh that is a very nice picture

I just ckecked: the Z4.5/400S is 30 Gramms heavier and 3 Centimeters shorter, so about same same

I know this is a cliché and hackneyed subject -- yet, when the sky at dusk explodes, it's hard not to look for the nearest camera. Which in this case was the Zf and Nikkor 400mm f/4.5Z.

The added benefit of this combination was it allowed me shooting hand-held at slow shutter speeds like 1/30-1/50 sec. After all, the sun had set long ago so darkness prevailed.
