Birna, what an adventure! May your next one be less fraught and more fruitful.

This is the larva of the Colorado Potato Beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata).

Nikon Zf, Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 AI, handheld. This is close to but not quite 1:2 magnification.

Abandoned houses are not a rare sight in Lithuania, although most are seen in the countryside. This quite modern house was left in an overgrown park-like setting on the perimeter of Kaunas, the second-largest city of the country. All window panes had long gone and deterioration and rot reigned on the inside.

Due to the large maple trees surrounding the dwelling, getting a clear view was impossible so I ended up with the following snapshot,

Strange scene on the beach last night (near Bayonne).

I remember seeing posters in 1960's UK warning us to report these if found in vegetables.
Are they a problem where you are Ian?
(or do they just get blasted with pesticides?)

May I ask whose image you are referring to?

Your photo of the piano and wall art, Akira.  It's really very nice.

The Lithuanian Lake Kaunas had a surprise show this evening. Any turtle venturing into this lake would turn out blue,  but perhaps that wasn't what Sting dreamt of in 'The dream of the blue turtles' ?

Cyanobacteria are an ancient life form predating man by hundreds of millions of years. Algal blooms like this make the waters highly toxic and smell foul at the same time.

Around here they are not a bug, they are a feature. (Sorry  ;D)

Insecticides keep them from wrecking potato crops.

Fortunately, photography can only capture images and colours, not smell :)

This is bizarre!  It looks as if someone threw blue paint into the lake...
